Family-friendly holiday destinations

From safari adventures to thrilling experiences, family holidays can be so much more than just the ‘bucket and spade’ beach break. Whether you’re travelling with toddlers, tweens or teens, the trick is picking the right destination. And here are a few ideas to inspire you...

Orlando, USA
If there’s one destination that never runs out of fun it’s here – the home of Disney World, the Universal Orlando Resort with its Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Marvel Super Hero Island, SeaWorld, and Legoland Florida. From thrill-seeking rides to animal attractions, Orlando is a magical getaway.

Billund, Denmark
Journey to the birthplace of the toy bricks, which is built for family entertainment. Legoland is a 20-million-piece theme park where you can take a mini jeep safari through an African wildlife park and a boat trip past the Statue of Liberty. And, with adrenaline rides, Duplo activities, and a themed hotel on site, there’s guaranteed fun for all ages.

Kruger Park, South Africa
Your kids will go wild for a safari holiday. Head to the more child-friendly south part of the park (kids must be over three), and take your pick of family tents and lodges. As well as game drives – and the chance to spot the Big Five – activities include bush walks, kids’ camps, ranger training and even dung throwing.

Sydney, Australia
Head Down Under to discover family-friendly beaches, zoos, adventure parks and museums – perfect to explore all year-round. From meeting Elvis the croc at the Australian Reptile Park to taking the plunge on rides at the Luna Theme Park, and from picnics in the Botanical Gardens to braving the Sydney Bridge Climb, this is a city with no limits. Take a day trip to the stunning Bleu Mountains, where kids can ride steam trains, and even meet the lovable Thomas.

Lapland
From Levi Fells to Olos, this winter wonderland deep inside the Arctic Circle is more than just home to that man in the red suit. Enjoy skiing, snowmobile rides, reindeer safaris through a snowy wilderness, and, if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Visit during the festive season and there are a host of Santa specials to keep the magic alive for your little ones.

The Bahamas, Caribbean
With all-inclusive resorts aplenty lined along white sandy beaches and turquoise shores, jet off for a family holiday in paradise. The huge Atlantis resort has a water park, pools, and giant subterranean aquariums. And, head to the Dolphin Experience on Grand Bahama Island to swim with flipper and friends.
