Mom reading a book

“A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge” – George RR Martin

We know as a Mom you have to be at your best always, which is why we surfed through the internet, walked down libraries & even reorganized our book shelf to find 5 books that will educate, entertain & engage moms.

Here is our list of 5 Books every mom should read!

1.       The Discipline Book by William Sears, M.D. & Martha Sears R.N.

Whether you are at the starting line of parenthood or a teenage handling supermom, this book will explain everything that you know you should be doing but aren’t — as well as those things you had no idea that would help you keep your sanity. The husband-wife duo has covered everything from disciplining behavior to talking in a way your kids will understand. Although the book has been published in 1995, the knowledge is imparts is timeless.

2.       Motherhood Comes Naturally (and other vicious lies), Jill Smokler aka Scary Mommy, the name of her incredibly popular blog

After the huge success of her first book, ‘Confessions of a Scary Mom’, there were a lot of hopes riding on Jill’s second book! And she has met all of them. The book is based on the theme of sharing & laughing about the real truth about life with kids. It debunks the myths of parenthood. Jill perfect explains the book as, “This is not a parenting manual or how-to guide… think of it instead as a coping resource.”

3.       Because I said so, Dawn Meehan

This is by far the funniest books for moms! The book revolves around the life of the author who has six children & the shenanigans she endures.  From exploding a disposable diaper in the washer to having your child bathes in maple syrup in a restaurant, the comedy of events that occur in this book will have giggling, even long after you’ve put it down.

4.       Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy pictures, Amber Dusick

After her successful blog by the same name, Amber Dusick decided to compile a few creations in a book and it has been as popular as her blog!  She began her blog to vent out her day-to-day frustrations she faced as a parent using funny illustrations. Even though her own son said “The drawings are not very good, Mama.” The book is a fantastic read, both for the words and the (not-so) crappy pictures. As Amber reminds, “sometimes the crappiest moments make the best memories.”

5.       Ketchup is a Vegetable: And Other Lies Moms Tell Themselves by Robin O’Bryant

We assure you that this book gets better with every read. This book is a no holds barred look at the day-to-day life of being a mother to three, running a household & the everyday monotony. It will make you feel that you’re not alone in this crazy world of parenting & other times it will remind you that it could be so much worse.  Read the book & we bet you will get what we are talking about.
