Tips for the perfect spring picnic

Well it’s that time of the year again – not too hot, nor too cold – perfect for a picnic. There really is nothing like a day spent lounging around in the shade of a tree; far from the hustle and bustle of daily life now is there? Here are a few tips to help you set up that perfect spring picnic.

1) The picnic basket

The most essential thing for any picnic has to be the picnic basket. Make sure it is easy to clean and hold all the odds and ends that you will need to carry around.

2) Tablecloth

Why a tablecloth? It’s lighter, easier to carry and clean when compared to a picnic mat.

3) Garbage bags

You wouldn’t want to carry all your rubbish in your picnic basket, now would you? Also you don’t want to set a bad example for your kids by littering.

4) Finger food

Since a lot of a picnic is about munching on stuff be sure to carry lots of finger food. Fresh fruits, cookies, chips... stuff like that.

5) Main course

Once you’ve done with munching on all that finger food, the kids will want a couple of main dishes to look forward to. Preferably something light like some sandwiches or maybe a quiche.

6) Cutlery

Plates, forks, spoons, knives – everything that you need to eat with/eat off. And be sure to carry plenty of them.

7) Sunscreen

Although the weather may be mild, the sun can still cause sufficient damage. Lay on the sunscreen in copious amounts, both parents and kids.

8) First Aid Kit

With all that jumping around, there is bound to be some cuts and bruises. That will definitely call for some band aids and antiseptic creams.

9) Wet Wipes

Cleaning hands, faces and any spills. It’s always nice to have some wet wipes handy.

10) Games and books

For that lull in the afternoon when all you want to do is read a book or play a game of chutes and ladders.

11) Change of clothes

With kids around spills are bound to happen. It’s always better to carry an extra set.

12) Sun tent or umbrella

The sunlight may get a little harsh towards the afternoon, so a sun tent or umbrella is essential to keep you protected. It’s also good for an afternoon snooze.
