Bond Better

One of the most common and difficult things to do, especially in these modern times, is to find time to keep communications open with your children. Most 21st century families feel the crunch when it comes to ‘WE’ time.

If you feel like you are texting your kids more than talking, and yelling at them more than playing with them, here are a few simple routines you can follow that will help you bond and connect with your kids better.

Dinner Discussions

As parents, make sure that you and your kids eat dinner together with no distractions, such as television or phones. You can also whip up a dish your kids adore and talk to them about how they are doing at school and at their extra-curricular activities. A couple of sentences exchanged at the dinner table can work wonders for your children’s self-esteem and confidence. It also helps you stay updated with your their daily lives.

Game On

Bonding is not just about sitting and talking and watching TV together. Board games such as Monopoly, Pictionary and Scrabble will not help you spend quality time with your kids, but will also show kids that they can be competitive without having to feel insecure or afraid of failure. Even if they don’t win a game they can still have fun!

Bond over Books

Read with your children every day for at least 10 minutes no matter what. Make this habit an absolute must, like brushing teeth. Since reading with them requires a parent’s presence and thorough attention, it’s the best gift all parents can give their kids each day.

Take a trip

Taking road trips and vacations is a fun way to have new experiences and create some great memories together as a family. The best thing to do is to let the kids get involved from the planning stage.
